Libya’s future.

The United Nations passed a resolution on Thursday 17th March, to implement a no-fly zone over Libya. The resolution included permission to use all means necessary to protect civilians but does not endorse regime change or an occupying force.

The Prime Minister in the House of Commons today, 21st of March has said it was up to the Libyan people to decide their future.

I fully support protecting the people of Libya. I fully agree that it is up to the Libyan people to decide their future.

My concern is how can the Libyan people decide their own future when their leader Colonel Gaddafi is willing to attack his own people in order to stay in power? Are we not taking a side in a civil war?

In order for the Libyan people to decide their future, Gaddafi must go. This would go against the UN resolution if we help the Libyan rebels or freedom fighters to get rid of Gaddafi, we are acting effectively illegally.

The only way Gaddafi can stay is if he agrees to have an election to allow the Libyan people to decide if they want Gaddafi to stay as leader. I can not see this happening.

I can’t see how this is going to end.
